Have you ever dialed 911 for a medical emergency and wondered why the 911 telecommunicator asked so many questions instead of simply sending the ambulance?
The answer is because Mundelein Police Department telecommunicators are certified in Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD). After asking basic questions and dispatching an ambulance, our telecommunicator will ask a series of questions designed to gather as much information for paramedics prior to their arrival. EMD-certified telecommunicators will also provide callers with information on administering CPR, assisting in childbirth, helping a chocking victim and other life saving instructions.
If you ever find yourself having to dial 9-1-1 for a medical emergency, please be patient and answer the telecommunicator’s questions so we can better help you in your time of need.
