Coyote Awareness Reminder
The media has recently drawn the public's attention toward coyote activity. The following information is being offered as a recommendation for actions the community can take to prevent negative interactions with these coyotes. Please follow these safety precautions, especially if you live near open fields and / or undeveloped land.
Do not leave children or pets outside unattended especially during hours of darkness. We recommend that you put your pet on a leash and accompany them outside.
Do not leave pet food outside. This invites wildlife into your yard, which may attract animals and/or coyotes.
Eliminate the availability of birdseed. Coyotes are attracted to the concentration of birds and rodents that come to feeders.
Coyotes can and will jump over fences and barriers when searching for food.
Keep your garbage in a storage facility or in a tightly sealed container. Clean garbage cans regularly to reduce residual odors by using hot water and chlorine bleach.
If you see a coyote, make loud noises, waive your arms, but do NOT approach them.
